Our Story
History
Founder Sally McArthur was working as a Guardian ad Litem attorney, and while visiting a 3 year-old client, she asked the child if she wanted to read a book. The child was excited, and when asked, ran to get a book to read. She came back with an empty CD case, of the sort with sleeves for multiple discs, and the child proceeded to tell a story, flipping the empty sleeves as if they were book pages.
Sally always brought a couple of new books to leave with the child on subsequent visits, and she thought of all of the other children in foster care who did not have access to books in the home.
So, Sally created a project at her organization to provide children with books, and raised the money to do that. It became a very popular program, and tens of thousands of books were distributed to state-dependent children in Central Florida over 8 years.
After leaving the organization, Sally started this nonprofit to do the same thing for all children in low income families.
